Question:
How much do tummy tucks cost without insurance?
Incase my insurance doesn't cover it what would I expect to pay around? — Nicole W. (posted on June 13, 2001)

My doc wants $3500, anesthesiologist $1000, asst surgeon usually 25% of
surgeon fee. No info on hospital cost. Good Luck

Nicole, I just had a plastic surgery consult since I am about 20 lb. from
goal. I am waiting to hear from insurance providers, but in the event that
they deny the abdominoplasty (not a simple tummy tuck), the quoted fees
were as follows:
Surgeon - $3,000
Operating room - $2,230
Anesthesia - $1650
This plastic surgery group has its own operating room/anesthesia service in
their office structure so there are no hospital fees involved with this
plan, and I would be discharged home late in the evening after surgery.
His patients also have the option of having surgery done in the hospital
setting with an overnight stay, but that would increase the cost factor
considerably. This group is in western NC, and I don't know how the fees
compare with other plastic surgeons in other areas of the country. Good
luck!

It differs from surgeon to surgeon and depends on the area you live in. A
local surgeon told me $5,400 as an outpatient. A surgeon at a research
hospital told me approximately $10K. It is certainly to your advantage to
have it covered as medically necessary if you can.
