Question:
I'm concerned... Is 150CM Bypass too drastic?
My Dr. informed me that he will be performing the following: Distal RNY with 150cm of the duodenum (basically all) bypassed and a 15cc sized stomach. Is this too drastic? I'm concerned about malabsorption. Also is the stomach size too small? I'm not sure what to compare 15 cubic centimeters to. Any opinions would be appreciated. I have 150 cm. bypassed and I'm doing fabulous! I'm losing weight and
tolerating all food. My pouch is 30 cc (as I recall), or about the size of
an egg, so yours would be about 1/2 that size. Your concern about
nutrition is good, though...it should keep you eating properly and taking
your vitamins. Good luck and God Bless!

drastic. Lots of Luck

15 cc = 1/2 oz. 30cc = 1 oz, volume, not wt. I have closer to 400cm
bypassed. I watch my nutrition very carefully, but I do not
"diet" to maintain goal wt. I avoid milk & sugar and take
very specific vites & protein supps, but almost 7 yrs now & I
would not change anything about it

150cm bypass is about 5 feet. I personally have 450cm 'bypassed', with the
duodenal switch procedure. the doc gave me about 9% of my small intestine
with which to absorb food. I am doing just fine, no problems with
malnutrition or chemical imbalances. At one year post op, I have lost 166
pounds and have about another 100 to go before I have reconstructive
surgery that will remove about 30 pounds of excess skin from my legs, arms,
belly and butt. I will sure be happy when that day comes because one
negative side effect of this surgery is the weird slapping noises my body
now makes when I walk or move quickly. Good Luck~!

I have only about 150 cm left of my small intestine. Mine was truly a
distal reconnect. I have not had any problems and I am almost 3 months
post-op. My Dr. also has one of the highest success rates both for weight
loss and maintenance. I am really happy with my surgery and know many
others that also had my surgeon and they are pleased as well. Good Luck!!
