Question:
What to tell family members?

I am having my surgery and will be getting out of the hospital the day of my nephew's birthday party. I will of course not be able to attend, but what will I say to my brother? I don't want to tell him about my surgery and he may remember I already had my gallbladder out. Any suggestions?    — Judy K. (posted on May 28, 2001)

Judy ... I also had "surgery for painful adhesions from previous abdominal surgeries" .... hehehe. Worked for me!

My sil is really the one I would like to keep it from. So that I can't do. She is one of those "authorities" on ever subject.

I don't feel comfortable with lies or half truths. For those I do not wish to tell I simply say, " I had some abdominal surgery." If they persist, I say," I don't want to talk about it," There is nothing that says we have to tell everyone everything about ourselves. You can be polite and discreet.
