Question:
This type of sleep study for sleep apnea...
Hi, I was wondering if anyone has had this type of sleep study for sleep apnea. Tomorrow evening I'm to go to the hospital and get all hooked up with electrodes in I think she said 5 different places on my body. Then I'm to bring a machine home, hook myself to it, and sleep while it records. Has anyone had this type of sleep study done for sleep apnea? Thanks, Joy — [Deactivated Member] (posted on May 23, 2001)

I have heard of that being done.. or you can have the wires hooked up and
have to sleep over night at the center.. i'd prefer to sleep at home. I
was wired all over.. it was wild.. on my face, hair, chest legs, hands
etc..
Anyway good luck.

I have had both studies done. The "at home" study was done first
to see if I did in fact have sleep apnea. When it showed that I did, I had
to go to the hospital and get the full treatment so they could titrate the
CPAP (Constant Positive Air Pressure) to he level I needed. I am not sure
why they are doing yours the opposite way, unless it is to insure that you
are doing ok with the CPAP. Hope that helps.

Thanks ladies...the docs are trying to find out whether I have sleep apnea
or not. So this now makes sense that they would do this "home
study" first instead of the full-blown study at the sleep lab. Hugs,

I had this kind of at home sleep study done about two years ago. The only
difference is that the tech came to my house to hook me up an I returned
the equipment in the morning. I really liked the fact that I could stay in
my own bed. Once it was determined that I did indeed have sleep apnea,
then I spent the night at the sleep center for the titration of my CPAP
machine. I've slept like a baby ever since!
