Catabolism: The process in a plant or animal by which living tissue is
changed into waste products of a simpler chemical composition.
I don't know the answer but I thought it said Catholic too. Hopefully
someone can answer.

Catabolism is a normal function, I'm not sure I understand the question, If
you mean the starvation factor then yes it's the protein that keep that
from happening. Adequate ammounts of protein trick the body into thinking
it's getting the energy it needs, I don't exactly know how or why but it
does. That's why those shakes are so important. If we don't get enough or
too much, either way. kind of ironic huh? good luck

You are wise to have noticed this. 60g of supplement is the minimum and
yes, even with a proximal RNY, there will be some catabolic action. To
suggest more supplement is frightening to many. I like the way I feel on
180g of supplement, personally, and have maintained a weight under 115# for
over 5 yrs now. As long as you're using a true protein supplement with low
sugar, high protein and not adding it to anything with calories (milk, real
juices), then you can minimize the damage and hope to burn off fat only.
Calcium citrate to prevent the loss of bone mass, and lots of water. All
together, you're hoping to encourage ONLY the fat cells to get up and
leave. The more protein supplement you take (again, appx 30g of protein per
serving, less than 6g of sugar per serving and made with water or other
sugar free beverage), the more wt you lose, but it is FAT weight, not
muscle wt.
