Question:
I am a black female and I am 5 days post-op, I have heard black women
say they have some hair loss, but what does that mean? Does it come out in clumps or does it just get real thin, or do you have bald spots all over? I would like to get some idea so I can try to prepare myself. If anyone can give me an idea of what i am in store for I would greatly appreciate it...If my hair does start to come out drastically, is there anything I can take to make it to stop coming out so much...Thanks a bunch!!! — Ang B. I am 5 months post-op 2 days ago I am losing some hair now. It is thinning
and I tried to put it in a ponytail and noticed that it was shorter. Right
now it is just thinning and breaking. It's not coming out in clumps or in
spots. But like you I had to prepare my self too. Because that was all that
I felt that I had was my hair. And if I hadn't prepared myself I would have
had a fit about my hair. But I knew what to expect, but it's not that bad.
I'm a beautician and I still do everything else to my hair to you just have
to take more care of it now. I hope this helps.

I am a black female. My surgery was in NOvember, 2000. Before surgery my
hair was very thick and healthy. I had not cut it in approximately three
years and it had grown to just past my shoulders. I wore a wrap style. I
noticed hair loss 4 weeks after surgery. My hair would come out in big
klumps after I washed it. I had heard that this would happen but It was
very depressing. My hair started to thin out alot and continued for about 4
to 5 months. During this period of time I wore my hair very curly to hide
the hair loss and thinning. My hair was too thin to wear a wrap. Over the
last few months I have not experienced much hair loss, although my hair is
not back to normal. I also noticed that the texture of my hair has changed
and I don't need touch-ups as often as I did before surgery.
