Question:
Have you ever givin into temptation ?
What I mean is - I am only 1 week 1 day post op and I am already cheating - I just want some real food - not liquid ! I ate a few bites of deli meat turkey breast and some baked french fries . I didn't eat a lot or anything I just had to have something . I want this to work so so much - I am already feeling like crap for cheating - AM I NORMAL !!!!!! I can't wait to start my next stage of foods - Friday isn't coming fast enough - I am still VERY addicted to food ! Please tell me I am kinda normal ... — Rachel B. (posted on March 24, 2001)

Yes I have, but not that soon. It might help you to think about the
delicate condition of your insides at this point. They have been cut up
and sewn and/or stapled together. You need to give them time to get firmly
'knit' together before putting any additional stressors on them. You need
to heal fully and completely to avoid any complications. What you do in
the first 6 weeks or so is critical. Do whatever it takes to control
yourself. I don't know which surgery you had and perhaps it would help to
know -- as with RNY you should be experiencing a change in cravings from
the 'bad' foods to the healthy ones. But, even then, it is too soon for
that. I urge you to follow the directions to the letter during this
critical stage.

Yes I have cheated and I still do. But never that soon. The fear if
something went wrong and having to go through that surgery again, kept the
temptations down. I waited till at least it had healed up. I believe that
was about 5-6 weeks.

I CHEATED TOO, EVEN WORSE THAN YOU! I HAD SURGERY FEB 1 AND RIGHT AFTER
VALENTINE'S SOMEONE IN MY HOUSE PURCHASED REESE'S EGGS OR SOMESUCH & I
JUST HAD TO KNOW IF I COULD EAT CANDY! I ATE HALF OF ONE, AND IT WENT DOWN
JUST FINE & I FEEL BETTER KNOWING I CAN EAT CANDY. INCIDENTALLY THE
NUTRITIONIST TOLD ME NO FOODS ARE OFF LIMITS WITH THE EXCEPTION OF WHITE
BREAD & FLOUR TORTILLAS (SO I TOOK HER AT HER WORD--HA HA!)

Rachel..I am 10 weeks postop(LAP RNY 48lbs down) and several weeks ago I
decided this was going to work and I need to develope my own lifestyle....I
do watch my calories and stay about 900-1000 calories..however, if my
family has french fries, I have 1 or 2 without guilt, this is not the norm
diet for me, but I also don't worry about it...granted, I keep an eye out
on things.. but I find my head has to be somewhat happy also to make this
work me.

I'm 6 weeks PO. If I want 3 chips or 5 CheezIts I have them. I am in
complete control and can stop at 3! No fast foods or deep fried for me
though ... well, I can have Subway ... that's fast food! Everyone must set
their own boundaries. The first time I ate pizza I felt so guilty! I had
1/2 of a slice of cheese pizza and did fine! I woke up the next morning and
I lost 2 more pounds! It's all about control ... and I refuse to deprive
myself! A "treat" once a week is not a bad thing!
