Question:
I would like to hear from those who have had a revision with a proximal rny.

My doctor bypasses 75 cm of intestine. I'm worried that, because I'm a revision, this won't be enough for sufficient weight loss. I want to hear from people who have had a revision with at most 75 cm bypassed and your experiences. Is it possible to lose all your weight? Let me know your thoughts! Thanks!    — [Anonymous] (posted on March 24, 2001)

I am also getting a revision from a vbg to an rny. My surgeon state that he will bypass 100 cm. I have these same concerns, I've failed twice already and really want to succeed. I did have pretty good weight loss with both, however did not reach goal weight. I think the most important things to remeber is that any surgery is a tool, and if we stop using the tool it won't keep working. My surgeon says that the more distal bypasses have much more severe side effects in the future. I know what you mean though i really want this to work, therefore i must make it work!!!!!!!best of luck

I am a revision with 100cm bypassed (VBG to RNY) and I made it to my "ideal" weight range although I'd like to lose about 10 more lbs. It can be done. I am in a support group with people who have all had 75cm bypassed (I moved out of state and they "adopted" me into their group) and I've seen people do very well. As the other posted stated, this is just a tool. You may have to work harder than a more distal or a BPD/DS patient but it CAN be done and it is SO worth it. E-mail me if you have any more questions. Good luck!
