Question:
I have no interest in things 5 months after surgery.
I am worried about my behavior. I am not depressed or anything. I am just indifferent. I do not want to do anything. I have some things to do but just sit and stare. I am wondering what is wrong. I really feel like let down has happened after being 5 weeks post op. I was excited at first. I cannot get a handle on whats wrong with me. Anyone going through this? — Nancy Z. That headline was supposed to read 5 WEEKS...not months. Sorry

You may not think of this as "depression", but it is very normal
for nontypical feelings / lack there of to come about at 4-6 weeks post op.
Sometimes it's refered to as hibernation syndrome. Avalee has a whole
page about it. Perhaps she'll respond and send it to you. I'm 5 months
post op, and it seems that it hits all of us eventually. For me I just
pushed forward, forced myself to get out and walk, go to the store, go see
family members etc, and within a couple of weeks it went away.

I'd just about bet it is depression just a different form of it than you
might be familiar with. Talk w/ your Dr and get support from a support
group.. force yourself to get out there..

Hi, when I left the hospital I was on cloud 9. That was on a natural too,
because I never needed pain meds after my lap RNY. I wanted to get
contacts, get my hair done, I cleaned through all my boxes and boxes of
papers in the house, I walked, WOOOHOOO, I thought, this is great. Then, I
dropped. Like a lead pipe. I didn't even want to lift my arm! I tried
just napping as much as I could, but I have three grandkids (4, 6, and 7)
with me most of the time, when I'm not at work (I only took off one week
from work), so I was forced to do things since they think I'm a
waitress/grandma. I hated it. But, eventually I came out of that slump.
It had me scared, but eventually I felt better little by little. Go to
www.sabariatric.com and read about the "Hunter" and the
"Hibernator." Our bodies have gone through major, major shock.
They go through all types of changes. It will all work out. I'm 2 months
post op and feel fine now, just lazy, but I always hated exercise :)
