Question:
How do I decide which type of surgery is for me?
When I called to set up my initial consulatation, I was asked which type of WLS I was wanting (some of the surgeons didn't do all types). I am thinking that I am most interested in the Fobi type procedure. How can I know more before going to see the surgeon (May 6)? — Deanna J. (posted on February 27, 2001)

What type does that surgeon do? Did you ask? You can do lots of research
on this website -- go to the Information Library or go to the Home page.
The Fobi Pouch is a type of Roux En Y gastric bypass. The Roux En Y is
recommended by the American Medical Association. There is no difference in
the Fobi Pouch and the RNy which I had except that Fobi usually makes the
pouch a little smaller. Different surgeons bypass differing amount of
intestine too. You need to be fairly familiar with the various surgery
types and then compare your knowledge with what your surgeon is wanting to
do to you. YOU make the final decision -- by accepting what that surgeon
does, of finding another surgeon. In other words, you must do your own
homework. Best wishes.
