Question:
What can be causing this nausea?
More often than not, I become nauseous when I eat. I am constantly salivating, and a very yucky feeling embodies me while or after eating. I think I am full because I salivate, perhaps even over ate, but that's not true. If I stop at that point I will become hungry quickly. It's not choices of food, because it happens with a variety of different things: whether lowfat or not. My sister (2 months post)swears I need a therapist, but I think it's totally physical. I am 6 months post, down 85 #'s. This has been happening for about a month now. — Jeannet (posted on February 19, 2001)

Mention this to your doctor. Are you taking somekind of Pepcid or tagamet?
I take them 2x day. Still have those symptoms on occasion think maybe I eat
too fast or too much. But I don't experience the quick hunger. Sometimes I
just give my stomach a rest and use my protein and eat soup and cheese. I'm
usually better the next day. Hope this helps you. God bless.

Hi! I have severe pain EVERY time I eat. Before surgery, I never got
hungry, of full. Well, I still don't get hungry or full. But, I stop eating
when my stomach hurts. It only takes that last bite to make me
miserable!!!! My Dr. is happy this is happening to me. He says that means
the surgery is working. I also get major gastritis after I eat. So, if I
have to be in public, and can't pass my gas, I get terrible pain. I
sometimes take paragoric. (A wonder drug!!) Besides that, I'm healthy. I'm
alive. I'm cured of my terminal Pancreatitis, and Insulin Resistant
Diabetes. Everyone is different. I haven't read anything of anyone having
my symptoms. Try not to compare yourself with your sister. Good Luck and
God Bless --

If your outlet (stoma) is blocked due to a mechanical difficulty, such as
being too tight or forming a marginal ulcer, you will only be able to eat a
small portion before becoming nauseated. So, you feel hunger right away,
yet still getting the "frothing" of a blocked outlet. Have you
been scoped yet? (EGD) When you've called your doc, what do they say?
Since you know you are chewing well, then it is not a behavior problem, so
then must be mechanical. You'll need to have your doc take a good look to
be sure the outlet size is corret. I had a marginal ulcer for 6 months,
too. It wasn't severe enough to actually make me vomit much, but every
meal included nausea. I had been seeing the doc's PA (at the time) and
then got shuffled in to see one of the surgeons. He diagnosed the problem
in 5 seconds, after I suffered for 6 months. DO be seen. Life after WLS
should not include misery.
