Question:
Lap vs Open - What about scars...always wanted to belly dance ;).........
Hate for this to sound vain, but will I have to do the dance of the seven veils...and just not drop a couple? What are the scars really like... — [Anonymous] (posted on February 15, 2001)

It all depends on how your body heals and what type of surgery you are
having. I had an open RNY 10/18. My scar is about 8 inches long and the
main scar ranges from about 1/8 - 1/4 inch thick...mosty 1/8. However, on
either side of the scar are a series of dots (from the staples). I have
already noticed that they have started to fade...at fist it was
ugly..crusty, scabby, etc. Then it was really really red....now it has
faded...it's still quite visable, but I have very very pale skin. My dr
has told me that it wil continue to fade. I have other scars that you can
barely see now, so I expect this will eventually do the same.

plate size circle.

How 'bout using body paint or glitter to hide the scars? Really lap scars
are like little stars anyway. A gem in your belly button will finish it off
nicely. :)

I had my lap RNY in March, 2000. I had six 1/2" incisions scattered
across my upper abdomen. Today, I can only locate 2 of those and they are
only tiny lavendar lines. Good luck with your belly dancing!
