Question:
Do the vitamins we take have to be chewable?
I'm 7 weeks post-op and I can't stand the taste of chewable vitamins. Can I take vitamins that you can swallow like Centrum? — Karen H. (posted on February 5, 2001)

I'm sure as we see over and over, that different dr's have different
preferences. My dr switched me to a regular multi-vitamin (not chewable)
after 1 month. I don't seem to have any problem with them.

I had a proximal lap RNY. My surgeon has his patients taking Flintstones
Chewables for the first 3 weeks, then they may change to any multivitamin
of their choice. I have been taking Centrum since that time without any
problems.

We never have a limit on swallowable vs chewable. Some prefer to chew for
awhile, then switch to swallow after the pouch is healed nicely. If your
outlet is behaving normally, swallowing pills should not be a problem.

Hi Karen, We are all unique...however, my surgeon explained
that my pouch opening will accomodate a portion of solid
food or pill NOT LARGER than a single M&M candy.
Keeping this in mind, if the pill/vitamin is larger,
I would need to break or cut it into smaller pieces.
Hugs, Sharon
