Question:
Is Soy Protein as good as a protein shake?

I can't stand the smell of protein supplements or shakes or powders. I was thinking of trying a soy protein. Has anyone else tried soy and what is the best kind and the best tasting soy?    — Judy G. (posted on February 4, 2001)

Hi Judy! Personally...I only drink soy. They are easy to find at any health-food store. Become a label reader. Ask for free samples until you find a soy-protein drink that you like. ((Hugs)) Sharon

I ONLY DRINK THE SOY PROTIEN AND ITS THE BEST I DRINK GENISOY I GET IT AT THE HEALTH FOOD STORE AND I MAKE A GREAT SMOOTHIE WITH IT AND YOU CANT EVEN TASTE THE POWDER. THERES A RECIPE ON MY PROFILE HERE. FEEL FREE TO CHECK IT OUT.

Judy, I also only use soy. I use Health Source soy protein shake, which I get at Albertson's. I generally use the vanilla, which I mix with 1/2 or 1/3 cup orange juice & 1/2 cup water. However, this does give you 8 to 12 grams of sugar, so if you dump easily, it may not be for you. This was the only way I could find that I was able to stand the taste and I tried MANY different protein shakes, with water, with milk, you name it. This is the one way that works for me.

I use the Health Source soy protein powder like Kathy. I get it at wal-mart for about 7.89/can. I use the vanilla with cold water and two sweeteners. This way i can take my three or four a day (since i can't stomach meat well yet) and not be sick. the Vanilla with water has three grams of sugar when mixed with water.. chocolate has six (i am allowed 2.. but stretch it so i get my protein in) anyway good luck!

I just wanted to add a quick note here. I never really cared for soy milk until I had surgery. Now, because I need the protein, and because of the lactose in milk, I have found SunSoy in my local super-market, in the milk section. I usually buy vanilla. It is already cold (which I like) and it is not as thick as other brands.
