Question:
What is the period of time after surgery that you get the all clear and don't have
to worry about problems? I have had WLS 3 1/2 weeks ago and am starting to feel fine again. Should I still worry about ruptures, blood clots, or other types of problems? My husband has not stopped watching me like a hawk because he is worried that something bad might happen if he doesn't. When can I tell him that everything is ok, and he can relax? — [Anonymous] (posted on January 5, 2001)

A very good question: In my humble opinion, it seems as though you are or
at least nearing the completion of that critical stage which from what I
can tell loosely is about a month. Of course even healthy, atheltic types
can have massive heart attacks so I guess as long as we are living we are
at risk of dying. Of course following your program with good nutrition is
essential to defeating mal-nutrition which may not rear it's ugly head for
quite some time. Hope this helps some. BTW, I am pre-op so please don't
take this as gospel.

I used my one month check-up as the crossing over point. Thats when the
doctor sort of gave me the next stage of my recovery process and I was able
to ask several of the questions that you have just asked. Take your husband
if he can go and let the doctor walk you through the next month. Congrats
to you!!
