Question:
I am 3 day post op with absolutely no problems. I am on clear liquids until I go back
to the doctor. I have been drinking watered down juice and watered down crystal light. Also I have had some sugar free jello, chicken broth and some decaf coffee with artificial sweetener. Does anyone have any other suggestions? — Judy G. (posted on December 24, 2000)

Hi Judy, The clear liquid stage is a difficult one but remember your
staple line is still healing so you must help it along. I loved beef broth
and sugar free popscicles. Thank goodness you won't be on this too long
and onto liquids you cannot see through, right? My favorite part of this
was Adkins Protein Shake from GNC. I made mine with 4 oz of skim milk, 4
oz of ice, 1 scoop of protein powder, and it makes up into a full glass
full so it took me a long time to drink it. It saved me as far as getting
enough protein. I like the chocolate and the strawberry and the vanilla
can be "improved" in many ways.....today I added a tbs of peanut
butter and it was so good! I have added baby food bananas to the vanilla
also. It is well worth the money it costs. Make it in the blender for a
frothy delicious shake. I just entered the soft food state today!!!
Finally mashed potatoes. Good luck, Judy, and Merry Christmas.

Herbal teas, s/f popsicles, s/f jello and we were allowed V-8 during our
CLEAR stage. I know, but there you go. You can heat it and add boullion or
spices (gently), or have it chilled. It tastes like REAL FOOD after 4
weeks on clear, let me tell you! I didn't see protein supplement listed in
there anywhere, but we're allowed those starting Day 5 or7 or so.
