Question:
Should I wait or jump ship?
I need some advice. I've been working with the bariatric clinic at the state university since July. My next appointment is at the end of January, when they *might* set a surgery date. It might be two weeks or two months from January. The university hospital is a teaching hospital, so the wait it long, but the help is excellent. They can do a lap RNY for me, but will not take out my gallbladder. Should I continue to wait?? I have been thinking about going to another surgeon in my state, who is very good, but only does open RNYs. He will take the gallbladder out at the time of surgery. I could probably get the whole thing done in just a couple of months. I've been waiting patiently for four months now. Should I continue to wait another 3-4 months for a surgery date? What would you do?? — Kristy J. (posted on November 16, 2000)

I am pre-op (Started process in May 2000 & surgery scheduled for
12/28/00) and have also gone with a teaching hospital with an excellent
reputation & success rate. Try to think of the waiting time as a
preparation preiod for your re-birth. I would go with the program with the
best success rate, lowest complication rate as well as the one that offers
extensive before & after care. Often times the programs with the
longest wait are the ones with a comprehensive total body & mind
program. I believe this will lead to greatest success. Good luck to you!
