Question:
Can you help?
Hi. I am at almost a year post-op and doing great, I can eat almost anything (within reason!) but I feel that I'm still not eating as well as I should. I don't think I eat enough protein, etc and feel that my meals focus too much on starches/carbrohydrates. Can you help me out and send me some of your daily menus/meal plan suggestions -- something that tells me how many fruits/vegs, meat, milk a day?? If I can get the right idea, perhaps I can make myself some meal plans that I can stick to. Anything would be helpful! Thanks in advance for your help! — FoxyLibrarian (posted on November 4, 2000)

Stephanie:
You could start off the day with scrambled eggs/cheese/salsa or yogurt.
With the yogurt, you could put in about 1/4 c. of cereal if you want.
Drink your water.
For lunch, have a broiled or baked chicken breast with one serving of
steamed veggies. I'd suggest little or NO bread. I choose no bread.
Perhaps, instead of bread, have 1/2 of a small baked potato with cheese or
lowfat/no fat topping of some sort.
In the afternoon, drink your water. Snack on a piece of fruit, perhaps a
few peanuts or other favorite nut.
For supper, another type of meat - meatloaf, roast, fish, etc. with
vegetable and/or salad.
Does this help? I don't do much in the way of starchy carbs or sugar or
fried foods.
