Question:
If you only have 80 lbs. to lose, will you lose it all, or stop 20lbs. short.
I'm having the surgery because of health issues related to my weight, but have read where most people stop losing 20lbs. above their goal weight. Is this true? — Judy G. (posted on October 26, 2000)

Judy,
I lost all my weight and then some. I did not stop at the 75% mark and
I am sure that many people have made it to their goal weight. Don't shoot
for 75% but if that is what you get, then be happy that you lost that much.
Good luck.

Some of that will depend on you Judy, as many of us have discussed WLS is a
tool for weight loss, it is not a guarantee. You have to be willing to do
the work to get down to your goal weight. The weight comes off very fast
the first few months but then it gets harder, sometimes you have to
increase protein, other times you have to exercise more. I am only going
into 3 months and can tell you that the first month the weight just fell
off me, I am stilling losing it at a rapid pace but I do have to exercise
and be careful, I am one of those people in which nothing bothers me to
eat, sugar is no problem whatsoever. I have done alot of studying and
researching, talking to people who had the surgery and have maintained
there wait for 3 or more years and they all say they had to work at that
last 10-20 pounds. Good luck to you, I'm sure you are making the right
decision just be aware that it may involve a little work on your part to
get to that goal.
