Question:
Has anyone developed NEW allergies after WLS?
I have never had any allergies to anything, but last week I had an allergic reaction to Percocet. I was itching from head to toe. Then this week I developed hives from the steristrips they put on on Tuesday. It's odd because I had a tummy tuck 3 years ago and never had a problem with either of these items. — DOROTHY A. Sorry, I forgot to mention that I had a breast reduction.

Hi Dorothy, I, too developed allergic rashes since surgery. First I got
yeast infections under my breasts and under the tummy apron but I'm sure
that is from laying in bed for a good month and perspiring.
Since then I have had two red blotches on my stomach and on both my arms
that got very itchy. I saw my dr and got some cream that took the rashes
and the itchiness away but the red blotches are still there. I'm waiting
for word back on the culture she took of it. I have no idea what caused
these red blotch rashes.

I haven't had WLS yet, but I can relate to allergies coming out of no
where. 6 weeks after my youngest daughter was born, I suddenly had a
sneezing attack out of the blue. I spoke to my mom on the phone about it,
she said I sounded like I was 10 again (I had really bad allergies when I
was a child, but have since outgrown them. I can eat strawberries and
everthing now, and I was deathly allergic to them) So after laughing it
off. That evening, my eyes started to itch. Not uncommon because I wear
contacts. I took them out and proceeded with my evening. Well, about an
hour later, my legs started itching like you wouldn't believe. I lifted up
my pant legs to look, but couldn't really see anything, so I went to my
bathroom to see better, and I had hives from my knees down. Shocker Huh?,
no, the shocker was when I looked up at myself in the mirror. My eyes were
almost swollen shut! Only then do I realize I am breathing exceptionally
hard. Needless to say, I called the Dr., they put me of steroids and an
antihistimine, and I have had to use an asthma inhaler occasionally ever
since then. I have not been the same since that day. I can't wear my
wedding ring all the time, or I just break out and my fingers itch. Same
with my watch. I hate to say this, but maybe it's 'cause I'm getting
older. (boo hoo!!!) LOL I have no advice for you, just I can RELATE so
much. - Patti

After my hysterectomy (total) I had to go to the ER because I broke out in
hives after taking Provera,I found out later I'm also allergic to
Amoxicillin,Ceclor, and Cipro. I had taken 2 of these drugs prior to my
surgery with no problems.I don't understand why the surgery changed
reactions but they did.Sorry I'm not much help but your not alone.
