Question:
Are there any alternatives to plain water?
I am getting bored with water and some days have an impossible time getting enough. Are there any choices that don't have caffeine or any kind of artificial sweeteners? I can't have anything with Nutra-sweet or Splenda so those are out of the question. I drink iced tea (not Southern <g>) so it has no sugar, but that does not add to my hydration because of the caffeine, I understand. Is there something I am missing or do I just choke it down and suffer? — S S. (posted on August 22, 2000)

Steph, you can jazz up your water with a twist of lemon, lime or orange.. a
little squeeze of any of them add a nice kick to the water and don't
require sweetener. Also, try to use decaffinated tea; or try some of the
herbal teas out there.. there are so many. As long as there's no caffine
in them you can "count" them as water. If you are having an
awful time getting your water in liquid form, try eating salads (lettuce is
mostly water), fresh fruits and such, a large quantity of water our bodies
need comes from our food (though it's not enough to let you completely skip
drinking fluids). Try crushed ice; let it melt in your mouth. Hope some
of this helps.

Have you tried Crystal Light (I like the lemon lime). Also, my Dr. told me
that sugar gree Kool-Aid is another option. I also get tired of water but
find that the bottled water DOES taste better. Good luck!

I have this terrific new drink I found at the drug store called Fruit-2-0.
Its a delicious slightly flavored water with no sugar and no calories. I
get it in raspberry, lemon, strawberry and a whole host of flavors. It's
absolutely delicious poured over crushed ice .. with a light fruity flavor.
Good luck.

This isn't something you'd want to do ALL the time, but Snapple comes in a
diet variety...Cranberry-Raspberry, Strawberry-Kiwi and White
Grape...non-caffeine...and I think in the neighborhood of 20 calories. I
use the Strawberry-Kiwi with vanilla protein powder and ice...adds a nice
flavor
Good luck

How about brewing your own iced tea with decaffinated tea bags? It works
great!

One of my best investments has been a Brita water pitcher. ..the chilled
water tastes much better. Also, ice tea made with 3 bags of decaf tea and
3 bags of Sunburst herbal tea makes a wonderful lemony ice tea.........the
orange and cranberry flavored herbal teas are also good this way. I love
the Crystal Lite pink lemonade too.
