Question:
Okay, so if I am transected...

What is to keep the staples from popping and food from going all over the inside of my abdomen? I think I have more questions now then I did 6 months ago before my surgery. But this has been nagging at me for a while.    — S S. (posted on July 8, 2000)

The danger for us is only those first few days, really. Once you are healed, you begin to SEAL. Like any scar, it will heal onto itself and not come apart once a good seal is established.

Exactly, Steph. What Michelle said......just as when other organs are removed, limbs amputated, etc. The tissue that is joined together bonds and seals itself off. For example, when you have a laceration on the skin and get sutures. The body has remarkable healing powers! I'm transected, and happy that I am!

Steph S... I really amire you for speaking up so often and asking such important questions. I have to ask you though... have you thought about researching the DS? The excess stomach is removed and will eventually stretch back out to a NORMAL persons sized stomach... not a MO persons size. Seems like you are a really smart cookie and want all the answers, which personally, I think is the best. I feel that all people should spend at least as much time as you asking questions and doing research. If you want to research the DS while you are in this mode, please go to www.duodenalswitch.com or if you prefer, you can email me personally. Good luck with all your research.

My understanding is that with simple stapling there is not enough trauma caused to the two mucusy tissues of your stomach lining to promote a true healing of the line. With transection the body produces cologen which heals over the raw cuts within 7-10 days. You would no more rupture your new stomach than you would blow out a lung or explode your stomach. It is completely healed and encapsulated. With my surgery, also, the stomach is completely made out of the very firm non-elastic portion of the inner curvature of the stomach. This means no stretching either. Good luck! JJR - MGB 12/27 @ 272 174 today! www.clos.net
