Question:
In a hurry?
Hi everyone! I thought of a question that I wanted to run by you. After my surgery, what if I get up late from work and don't have time to eat breakfast? Then what do I do? Will I be in trouble? What about lunch or dinner? What can I do? It takes a good 40 minutes (so they tell me) to eat a meal. What do I do if I'm running late? Thanks all!!! Kristin — MissAuntieK (posted on May 25, 2000)

Kristen:
I was off work for 6 weeks and able to get in 60-80 grams of protein thru
food. I was worried about going back to work to...I drink a protein drink
(either GNC Designer Protein - 17g, or HDT's Pro Plan 25g -for me the 2
scoops (55g) tastes pastey & is lumpy & the body can't absorb all
the protein at once anyway, so I only use 1 scoop) at about 6:30 or 7. At
work at about 9:30 ish, I'l have cereal or yogurt or a small breakfast. I
usually pack a lunch - lately its salad with turkey & low fat cheese,
bagel chips cream cheese & lox, or taco chips, refried beans, tyson's
southwestern chicken strips & veggies. Havne't felt much like eating
lately and have had to add another protein drink in the evening. Sometimes
I'll have a double skim decafe latte in the afternoon and thats yummy,
satisfying and gives me (I'm guessing) at least 7 g protein. It takes a
little planning, but you'll work it out. If you have a fridge at work -
keep string cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese, packs of lean lunchmeat, cream
cheese on hand, along with some crackers, peanut butter & canned tuna.
Whenever I don't plan or get lazy, I know there is something I can eat and
I don't have to end up buying something unsatsfying & expensive.
Haven't been able to eat bread or pasta, so most fast food is kind of a
waste for me.

Toni gave great suggestions. I could add that it does NOT take me very long
to eat a little breakfast: such as a scrambled egg (sometimes I put cheese
on it and sometimes cheese and salsa); you can grab a quick slice or two of
99% fat free lunch meat (like ham), peanut butter on a cracker or graham
cracker. You'll get the hang of it. Best wishes.

hi kristin,
will your doctor have you on the Atkins diet? if you can tolerate eggs, you
can always cruise through the drive thru for a quick egg & cheese
bisquit minus the bread.or a steak bisquit, you can also have a protein
shake, coffee, or s/f jello.

What about a glass of protein supplement? Not CIB + milk, but a good
supplement with 30g of protein that shakes up in 4 oz of WATER (or sugar
free juice)? It's fast, you can sip as you commute, and there are no
"bad" calories in it. Just fast, easy nutrition, easy on the
pouch, and it helps the wt loss.
