Question:
I am at 5 months post-op and seem to have reached a plateau, any advice??
I had an open RNY on 11/15/00 and have lost about 73 lbs. I know I should be greatful for the amount I've lost already, but I'm worried I might be stuck here for a while. I've been walking 2 miles a day religiously and trying not to eat too much, under 800 calories a day. Am I whining? I guess I just need some reassurance. Thanks! Take a look at the things you're eating.. You say you're under 800
calories which is good, and you're walking is great also. So next I
would say let's look at your WATER intake? This is very important in
the weight loss mechanism. How much (water) are you drinking a day? I
also caution you on hidden calories in certain foods or those foods
that turn to sugar i.e. potatoes, beets, corn.. Use low fat flour when
baking, use light bread and light wheat bread, always use fat free
butter or margarine, also fat free sugar free dressings or salads.
Salts is another thing to watch.. Foods high in sodium.. your body
already thinks it's starving, so it will use the salt to grab onto the
water and hang on for dear life. Drink lots of water but cut salt
intake to a bare minimum. Use egg beaters or egg substitutes when
ever possible and watch calories on cheese (use low fat cheese only) Read
all labels look for the lowest fat and calorie content. Just because it's
"FAT FREE" may be still loaded with calories. Just a few
suggestions ;-)

Hi Stephanie: I've had plateaus that have lasted for weeks! Your body
needs time to catch up and regroup. Vicki has given you excellent advice.
Try and be patient. It's hard, I know. Congratulations on your 73 pounds,
that's wonderful!
