Question:
I have another question!
Hi everyone! I'm sorry to post ANOTHER question. But I would like some feedback. I have Medicaid and hopefully will be approved for surgery. My question is this. With my recent diagnosis of sleep apnea, do you think this surgery will be covered? Has anyone had surgery done at Frodert Hospital in Milwaukee and on Medicaid? Were you approved? Thanks ONCE again everyone!!! I appreciate this site so-so-so- much! Kristin — MissAuntieK (posted on April 9, 2000)

Kristin, my experience is that Medicaid does cover this surgery if
medically necessary. With a diagnosis of sleep apnea it would seem that
that would just solidify the need you have for the operation. Remember that
Medicaid, even though funded by the federal government, is administered by
each state, so you may want to check with your Medicaid provider just to be
sure that it's covered. You can also call different hospital billing
offices and see if the operation has been paid for. Ultimately, the
doctor's office will tell you right up front if Medicaid will pay (THEM)
for the operation. If a doctor isn't going to get paid, is there any way
they would do the surgery on someone? I don't think so. Chances are,
though, that it is covered. Funny, don't cha think, that Medicaid and
Medicare do pay for this type of surgery and are government programs, yet
the private companies get away with the excuses not to cover it? Makes you
think what's wrong with this picture? Good luck to you!!
