Question:
Has anyone experienced low grade fevers the 1st week after surgery?
I am presently 4 days post-op with a Lap Rny. I had a hig grade fever (102.4) directly after surgery which soon dropped down to normal after about 24 hrs. This is my 2nd day home and my temperature fluctuates between low/normal (98.2-98.6) and low grade (99.0-100.0). I called the surgeons office and they said if it reaches 101.0, I should contact them immediately. Does this sound like a problem, or is it par for the course? — DOROTHY A. (posted on April 7, 2000)

I received the same instructions. My temperature was slightly elevated the
first 7-10 days. I wish I could give you a reason for it to help ease your
mind. It made me feel better to check my temp twice a day - I was paranoid
about getting an infection. I'm confident that its pretty common - no one
even blinked an eye when I questioned it. I had an open rny and was in the
hospital 4 days with a low grade fever.
