Question:
What is this Window of Opportunity for Loss?

I have seen several references to a window of opportunity for weight loss after the surgery. That was not a part of the information made available to me prior to my MGB last July. Because my loss has been quite slow and has plateaued for quite some time now, I'm beginning to worry. I'm not even half-way to my goal yet! How much time do I have before the magic hour is over? Thank you for your help! Has anyone stopped losing and then started again after several months? I need assurance that it's not over.    — [Anonymous] (posted on April 4, 2000)

My surgeon indicates the greatest amount lost is during the first 6 months, and the window of opportunity you describe "closes" at 18 months. You've probably hit a plateau - I suggest increasing your water, getting all your protein, and increasing your exercise. If this doesn't help, contact your surgeon. Best of luck!
