Question:
Exercise Recommendation?

ProForm has a line of treadmills that you can actually connect to your computer, log on to www.ifit.com, and work with a personal trainer based on your fitness needs - is the Internet not amazing??!! This is a great exercise tool for those of us who have time constraints on our exercise routines. I have purchased one and can't wait until I can get the post-op go ahead for exercise! Wonder what will happen if I skip a scheduled exercise time - think the trainer will ream me out?! LOL!    — [Deactivated Member] (posted on March 17, 2000)

Denise, how exciting to see how great these computers can be. If only some cyber guru could walk that treadmill for us!!! I have been exercising at a gym for the past month now. I do the weight strengthening/resistence training, and I walk on a treadmill for 30 minutes at 3 MPH (a miracle). Be sure to vary your exercise routine to allow muscles to rest and repair after a vigorous workout. I have been reading about fitness (now that I have real hope to achieve some measure of health!) and everything I read over and over and over says that aerobic exercise (at 80% of your maximum heartrate)is the best way to reduce overall weight and increase health. Be sure to get your heartrate into an aerobic range, or target zone to maximize the exercise and remember, more is not necessarily best when it comes to aerobic, but consistency is!!! (Target heartrate at 80% is calculated by 220-age=maximum heartrate. 80% maximum is found by multiplying the maximum heartrate times .8. Example I'm 45 years old so 220-45=175, 175x.80=140 beats per minute to be in the target zone.
