Question:
Please help! Pre-op Antibiotics question
Hi everyone. I was wondering how long before surgery should you stop taking any anti-biotics. I am scheduled for the DS this friday (2/18) and have just started anti-biotics yesterday. I didn't think I would need them, I had a cold about three weeks ago but the sore throat is still hanging around, no other symptoms. So the "walk-in" put me on antibiotics (because it was the weekend my PCP wasn't in) and my surgeons office staff's message said they won't be answering the phone this week and to leave messages, please help!!! Thanks for any information. — Christina D. (posted on February 14, 2000)

Hi Christina,
I was on antibiotics before surgery and my surgeons' office
told me I could take them up to and including the day before surgery.
However, I think it is very important you let your surgeon know about
the antibiotics, just in case they don't work in time before
your surgery- you don't want to have surgery with your immune
system compromised! After all, we are doing this for our health!
Good Luck.

Hi Christina: I agree, continue taking the antibiotics and leave a
detailed message for your doctor. Good luck on Friday! Jaye
