Question:
A Comment on heating Designer Protein.
I thought I would pass on some information I received from Designer Protein regardiing heating their supplement. I emailed them explaining how I had been preparing my morning hot chocolate to find out if I was loosing any protein content by heating. I put 1 cup water in the microwave (ours is a larger style microwave, but I am not sure of the wattage). Then I heat it for 1 min. 30 sec. and pour into the blender. I add one envelope of Carnation instant hot chocolate with no sugar added and 1 scoop Designer protein and blend for up to 5 seconds--just long enough to mix it. A couple of times I used a candy thermometer to test how hot it was at the point of putting in the protein and it was at 135 degrees. I gave Designer Protein this information and they replied with the following: "The short amount of time that you put Designer Protein in the microwave and blend it, should be no problem. The whey has gone through the cheese making process and has been pasteurized at 161 degrees F for 15 seconds. These conditions produce a virtually non-denatured whey protein." So--If anyone is interested in trying it this way as a "change", I thought you might like to know. I am very grateful to all who warned me about heating it in the beginning as I was heating it much hotter at that time. As I am doing it now, it is only luke warm, but definately drinkable. I just can't seem to do shakes everyday and I don't drink coffee. — Dot W. (posted on February 12, 2000)
