Question:
Will post-ops share their successful "vitamin plans?"

I am about 3-1/2 months postop and am feeling more tired than I think I should. I am trying to work out a good vitamin regimin and would apprecitate any suggestions that have been successful for other postops. I would like to know what you take, what you take it with, and what time of day works best. I seem to end the day with a few left that shouldn't be taken together (ie., calcium and iron). I hope this is clear. To date, I have not worked with a nutritionist as my insurance will not pay. I am considering it now though. Thanks so much.    — Dot W. (posted on January 17, 2000)

Hi! You didn't mention your age or type of surgery, both can be contributing factors to your ability to bounce back energy wise. I'll share with you the vitamin/mineral plan worked out with my med team. I take one Flinstones chewables with Iron; one "Super B-Complex" which contains Vitamin C, Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, B6, B12, and Pantothenic Acid; 600 mg Calcium with Vitamin D, 50 mg of Zinc, and 25,000 IU of Beta-Carotene. I take these around noon after I've eaten. I can't tolerate any vitamins on a empty stomach. I'm 11 months post-op, open RNY, -105 lbs. My energy level is high. I'm 46 and it was over 6 months before I really felt "back to normal." Good luck...hope this helps!

Hi Diane, I am 1 1/2 months post-op and my daily regime is as follows: I also drink pure-pro juice from GNC. I mix half with water though twice a day. I take 2 flinstone chewables in the afternoon after lunch as for some reason it makes me nauseous in the morning. With that I take 50mg of zinc every day. At night I take 2 tums for the calcium. This seems to work for me and I have included exercise in this plan which seems to have given me more energy. Everyone is different though and although this works for me you need to find what works best for you. Hope this helps. Good luck!!!!
