Question:
When do the cravings slow down or stop?
I am 4 weeks post-op and still on soft pureed foods for another 2 weeks. I have been very lucky so far because I have not vomited and have only had one short episode of what I believe to be dumping. My problem is that I am craving a lot of my old "bad foods". I was doing well until the last few days and I am going crazy!! I am so scared of dumping or vomiting that I don't dare eat sugar or much fat, but I don't want to think of this all the time. I saw have seen here that most lose their cravings at least the majority of the time and I would like to know when I can hope to lose mine. Thanks. — Dot W. (posted on October 20, 1999)

A high quality protein supplement will help quell the cravings. You really
DO need food, but not in tuch a way that it compromises the integrity of
your pouch or connections. A tasty liquid protein will assure your body
that you are well-nourished and it can slow down on the panic button
pressings! And good ones are high in protein, nearly no fats, carbs or
sugars, and they're gentle on the pouch.

Boy, do I remember THAT stage! I just wanted anything, I mean ANYTHING
that wasn't a 'full liquid'. I was so sick of soup and jello and sherbet
and pudding, I thought I would lose my mind! After I was able to advance
to regular foods, the cravings stopped for the most part. I do still get
them, but nothing like when I was first post-op. Things will settle down
considerably in about another month. Good luck! Jaye Carl, open proximal
