Question:
I am in the process of waiting for insurance approval , should I just wait?
They had said they would handle it, but should I do some phone calling or letter writing myself? I'm about half nuts with the waiting -- HELP. — Jari M. (posted on September 3, 1999)

Try to be patient when waiting for the insurance company. It took my
insurance company a month before I heard anything, which was agonizing.
Then I got turned down, and had to appeal and wait another 2 weeks. It's
really hard, but you have to try to be patient. :) Hang in there.

I had good results with my insurance. It took about four weeks. In my case
I had an HMO. I was imperative to keep my Primary Care Physician involved.
I have a friend who did not and was denied because the primary care
physician was not involved. Good Luck

It never hurts to call for a status report on a weekly basis ... How long
has it been since you filed for approval?

I did lots of phone callng myself. Partly because my surgery
was scheduled quite soon after my first consult and I still
had other consultations whose paperwork had to be in for
insurance approval. As it turned out I was scheduled for surgery
on Tuesday, and my approval came the Thursday before.
