Question:
Are there questions that you wish you had asked in your first evaluation?
im going in for my 1 hour evaluation on may 26th i want to be sure to ask everything i can. if you have been through this you probably have some things you wish you had known about to begin with. — lisa B. (posted on May 14, 1999)

There are many questions I wished I had of asked. What is your new stomach
made of? Can we defeat this surgery? I heard hernias are common with this
surgery is there anything the surgeon can do to try and help prevent this?
Am I going to get sick from eating? Can this be reversed without any
complications if there are problems? How long does the feeding tube stay
in? There are many questions that people do not realize. There are also
people who breeze through this surgery but there are also those of us who
have problems. If you would like to chat with me, you can e-mail me. I am
on the list. Thanks.

Questions to ask:
1. How many of these surgeries have you done?
2. What are the possible complications, and how frequently do they occur?
3. Is there a support group?
4. What about follow-up?
5. How long in the hospital?
6. How much weight can I reasonably expect to lose, and how long will it
take?
7. What about supplimental vitamins and so forth? what about adequate
nutrition?
If there is no follow-up or support group, I would strongly recommend
finding another doctor. These components are very important for success.

Hi...the only questions i would ask are to make sure of the differences
between the different surgeries. Ask him what is the least intrusive
surgery that is best for me. Most questions that you would ask can be
answered in here but only the doctor can tell you how many times he has
done this surgery and what % of people have problems with it. Good
luck...my surgery is in 2 weeks....hope your's goes as fast as mine. My
first appointment was 5 hours cause they went over everything...i was
approved within 1 month from the date i saw the doctor.
