Question:
Has anyone here with CIGNA open access or BCBS SC been approved
with exclusions to your policy in 2005? — Florence B. (posted on August 7, 2005)

I too have Cigna and will have my surgery after almost 4 years of getting
an approval on 8/15/05. Cigna first denied me in 2002-2003 even though it
was a medical necessity. I then figured I could lose on my own but could
only mantain. I then re-applied with Barix Clinics and had to go through
the entire approval process again which ment doctor's letter-medical
necessity, nutrition consult, psych testing, thyroid testing and another 6
month diet, etc. and then wait...I was denied up through the 2nd denial and
my appeals were picked up through Barix Clinics by Walter and Kelly
Lindstrom at Obesity Law and Advocacy Center in Chula Vista, CA
(obesitylaw.com). If you have all documentation and it is medically
necessary they will help get the approval at no cost to you. I thank them
everyday for them. It took 18 weeks after my first denial letter so do not
think that it cannot happen. I wish you luck and perserverance, one thing
you need most with Cigna.
