Possibly water retention? Are you drinking at least 64oz of water every
day? The more water you drink, the less you retain. May be something you
want to mention to your doctor, because it could be something else...

Hi Carol. I have noticed throughout the day that just my left ankle will
gradually swell. I was told water retention as well, though I sip on water
consistently all day long. While I'm working I try to keep it a little
elevated and I notice that sometimes helps. It's weird, doesn't happen for
me everyday but I just notice it from time to time. I was thinking it could
be a hot weather thing too, but that's just a guess. If you work a desk
job, I'd suggest trying to elevate a bit during the day and defenitely
drink as much as water as possible. Good luck!

I noticed that the hot weather (in the upper 90's here) has caused my
ankles to swell. Dr said it was water retention and it is normal for hot
weather. I drink plenty of water, but she gave me a diuretic to take PRN.
I take it about twice a week and that seems to help tremendously with the
ankle swelling.
But it can also be a sign of hypertension so definately have a talk with
your dr about it.
good luck.

Hi first of all I don't want to scare you but I just had my surgery July
6th and ever since they have been both getrting swollen. The right more
than the left.It was my 2 week check up and they did an ultra sound
imediatley on bothh of them. Come to find out I have blood clote in each
foot more so the right, which is huge, rather than the left. So far they
found 3 in the right foot. I'm going to the Dr,'s every week to check my
blood level and see where I stand medicine wise. I'm in alot of pain in my
right more than my left. They called me last night and wants to see me today
at around 3:00 or so and talk to me . I'll let you all know what;s going
on OK

1st off- SPEAK W/your doctor about this right away. But, it can be- too
much sodium, not enough water (dehydration) or I've heard potassium levels
out of whack can do it too. 1st off- call your surgeon, then try drinking
ALOT more fluids and see if that helps.

Hi! Are you getting enough protein? My surgeon says that we need a
minimum of 70 grams per day. Another patient that had surgery the same
week that I did told me that she had developed severe in her feet and
ankles. When she checked with her surgeon, he told her it was a sign of
not getting in enough protein. So she had to up her protein
intake.
Hope this helps!
