Question:
Cost for self pay lap band
I have a friend that is considering lap band (self pay). Can anyone give me an idea on how much this would cost? I also undersand that appointments are needed to adjust the band fill. Is that an extra charge or is that part of the overall fee? thanks! — SJP (posted on July 17, 2005)

Hi, Each practice has their own price. It is around 20,000 for the
procedure and hospitalization. You will have to pay a separate fee for band
fills. Check with your surgeon for an exact price. It will be worth it.
Some hospitals will give a discount for cash payment. Hope this helps.

I self payed at $13,000 with one year of fills included. Each surgeon is
different with his policies. I have seen a few docs with prices as low as
12g within the US, but this isn't the time to bargain shop--I was lucky, my
doc had performed nearly 1000 of these procedures AND had a low self pay
rate. Go to obesity helps surgeon page, and start making calls. I called
all over the US. Just be sure to tell your friend, that if she chooses a
surgeon that is far, to make sure she has someone at least semi-local for
fills.
