Question:
Did anyone find out during their WL testing that they had Gastric Polyps?
Can the surgery still be done with gastric ployps? — jeannieb (posted on June 20, 2005)

Absolutely the surgery can still be done. I had a history of gastric
polyps also. When I had my consult for WLS I mentioned this to the surgeon
and he said no problem. He would put a set of clips in my residual
stomach, that can be found with a fluoroscope and then dilated open should
it become necessary to get to my old stomach. This will be a simple
outpatient procedure. He also scoped my stomach 2 weeks before WLS. He
found 15 small polyps that he removed. I have not had my old stomach
scoped since that time, which is 2-1/1 yrs ago. We plan to scope it at
about 5 years PO and I am hopeful it will come up clean at that point. I
am hoping that all of my polyps were the result of living on prescription
stomach meds for the previous 8 years. I was on Prilosec which shuts the
scid pump down in the stomach. While it solved the problems the
anti-imflammatories were creating, it may well have created the polyp
situation. If I do have more polyps at 5 yrs, then we will have to
periodically check my old stomach. A slight inconvenience in the scheme of
things. Assuming you have no other serious stomach condition, benign
gastric polyps should not stop your WLS. Good Luck!
