Question:
Has onyone had this problem? Multi previous belly surgery.
I have had several surgeries on my stomach. one gullbladder, two gerd surgeries, (one open, one lap) and a mesh put in for hernia repair from open gerd surgery. If you had this type of problem, what type of WLS did you have? — 2005loser (posted on March 19, 2005)

I h ad an open appendectomy and lap gallbladder surgery before I had open
rny. neither affected the surgery. I have just had triple hernia surgery
and have been told that it will have not affect on my tummy tuck. I was
concerned about the mesh, but the surgeon told me that it will have not
affect on a tt.

I have had two very serious abdomenal surgeries the year before I bad
weight loss surgery. My wls was supposed to take an hour and half but
actually took six hours because of all the scar tissue but I was able to
have it. i don't know anything about the mesh hernia stuff. Fortunately,
that is one thing I have not had.

Well---Have only had tubes and umbilical hernia repair. I had the RNY and
my doc told me he would have to be careful not to get into the mesh from
the hernia repair. There is a much greater risk of infection if they go
throught the mesh although it is still doable--and it was my choice to say
go for it. I was fortunate he went in above my belly button---and totally
avoided the mesh---that was his goal---I was very happy and he was pleased
as well. He said he saw scar tissue up to the point he went in for access
and yes--if you have alot of that it can increase your surgery time but it
can still be done!

I've had numerous abdominal surgeries, hysterectomy, lap gallbladder,
c-sect, surgery for endometreosis, and I have a mesh the size of a small
placemat in my abdominal wall from hernia repair surgery as a result of the
hyst.. I was able to have LAP RNY,(5/15/03) the Dr did tell me he might
have to do open once he was in if there was a lot of scar tissue in the
way, but there wasnt and everything went smoothly. Good luck to you. :-)

I had 12 abdominal surgeries 1 1/2 before my Lap RNY. More details are on
my profile, but I had acute necrotizing pancreatitis. My bariatric surgeon
did ultrasounds to check for adhesions, etc. beforehand, and told me that
he would try to pull it off. He also told me that I would have one of three
outcomes:<br>
1. He would put in the first camera, see that it was too bad in there, and
have to close right away.<br>
2. He would get in okay, start the procedure, then have to convert to an
open RNY,<br>
3. He would be able to complete the surgery lap.<br><br>
He tells me (and the surgeon who did my other surgeries) that it looks like
"a bomb went off in my abdomen" and calls it the "war
zone."<br>
My lap RNY was very long, but he did it - with one less incision because
scar tissue he pulled my liver enough of the way clear for him! Dr. Kothari
is a gift from heaven and a credit to his profession. <br>
If YOU are unsure, find a surgeon who has done lap RNY on someone who has
had as much surgery as you and been successful... and not overly confident
and promising the world :)<br>
Good luck to you!<br>

I had a prior abdominal surgery 10 years before I had lap RNY - there was a
lot of adhesions (scarring) so my operation eneded up lasting 5 hours. (was
supposed to be 1.5 hrs)
