Hi, I just had a triple hernia repair and an abdominal plasty on Sept 23.
I had open WLS in 02. This was alot more paiful than the WLS. My PS used
mesh to repair the hernias, he said its proven to hold better than just
stitches,, I also researched it on the internet and thats also what I
found. With the surgery its the muscle (hernia) repair and tightening (if
your going to have that also) that is the most painful,,the insicion was
basically not painful...Im over 3 months out and I still have tightness and
some pain in my tummy. But even with all the pain I would do it all over
again. Good luck with your upcoming surgery.

I had a panni, triple hernia's repaired, and muscle tightening on 8/27/04,
I was cut from hip to hip, surgical glue and internal sutures were used.
My ps didnt use any mesh, but did repair the hernias with sutures and sued
sutures to tighten the muscles. I had open RNY 4/23/03, and for both
surgeries, I stopped using percocet on day 3 the pain was tollerable but I
have a very high threshhold for pain. I slept in my bed from the first
night and I also had my hubby help me lay down and set up for the first
week. Good luck to you. Rosemary

I had an abdominopasty with a very small hernia repair in August.
Initially, the pain from this surgery was more than from the lap RNY, or
since it was 18 months later, the RNY pain was a faded memory, LOL.
Anyway, I also had 2 surgeries where I was cut like a c-section. Both the
TT and RNY were much worse. One uncomfortable part of the TT was the
muscle spasms that I experienced afterwards. I was afraid to take narcotic
pain killers as they gave me major constipation, so I asked the PS for
something else. I think it was toradol. I know it can irritate our
pouches, but I only used 2 doses, after a meal, and was fine. The narcotics
also made me very queasy and dizzy, and as a matter of fact, kept me in the
hospital a day extra after the RNY, and 2 days after my PS. I was able to
get in and out of bed at home much easier with the PS than with the RNY,
maybe because I slept propped up on my back, with pillows under my knees
for more than a few weeks. This kept the strain off my incision which was
from hip to hip. Sorry for the rambling, but I guess I am trying to say,
that each of the surgeries were painful, but in a different waqy, and I
would not let that pain stop me from doing them again if I needed to.

Cathrine, If you had the WLS surgery you will come threw this like a
BREEZE!!!! I had the surgery, but just also had a Hernia repair in Oct
04,and must admit the hernia repair was worse then the WLS surgery, but
got around fine and slept in own bed. But the only thing that did help was
the procets, which after 3 days I waas fine. But just found out I have
another Hernia and guess what it can stay there to, my body isnt ready for
more surgery yet, and what doesnt hurt dont have to be fixed yet! You will
do just fine. GOOD LUCK!!! And before you no it you will be looking back
and its all over with. Take Care Christine :)

P.S My Doctor said its better not to use man made materials (mesh) and
use your own. I hear alot of people complain of that mesh, that they can
acually feel that inside.........YUK!!! Good Luck once again!!!! :)

I have had many surgeries including open RNY a year ago..Six weeks ago I
had a triple hernia repair and it hurt like hell...Felt like someone kicked
me hard in the stomach..HOWEVER, it was not something that pain pills didnt
help alot..I was able to sleep in my bed etc. no problem with mobility and
I am 55.No mesh here either..Dont be afraid, heck we can do ANYTHING
...:)It is all so worth it..Just would not want to do any of it again..best
of luck to you.
