Question:
I Who out there is about 5

I have not discussed with my doc what my weight should be and I was wondering if you are them same height and age group what yours is and if you have acheived it..and of course, how long it took? Yes, I know everyone is different but I would like to get an idea of what others have done. Oh, I also started out at 247lbs. Thanks!!!    — Splenderella (posted on December 17, 2004)

Hi. I am a few years older at age 37 but I am 5'4" tall. I just discussed this issue with my doctors. When I asked my PCP she said she will be happy if I get below 150. When I asked my surgeon he said he thinks anything below 140 would make him happy. I asked the nurse in my surgeon's practice and she said aince I am the same height as her, my ideal weight should be 129. So, I am shooting for the 129 figure but if I get there and feel too small I figure I can eat a few carbs and put some weight back on. I just want to get to 129 to see how it feels. I had my surgery in mid May and am about 35 pounds away from that goal. I am just hoping to maintain over the holidays and then kick it into high gear to lose these last 35 pounds before my 9 month anniversary in February. I hope this helps you a little. Have a happy holiday and best wishes for a healthy and happy new year. Donna

I am 29 and 5'2. I started out at 244 lbs and I am now almost 13 months out and weigh between 123-128 depending on the day. My surgeon said that my goal weight would be about 130 lbs but I could go as low as 112, but not lower. I want to get to 119 lbs. I just purchased a new Gazelle to use and I have 4 Tae Bo tapes that I am getting back out and I hope to lose the last few pounds soon. It seems like it took forever to lose the weight but looking back I can't believe how much I have lost and how fast.

I'm 5'4", 56 years old, weighed 238 on day of surgery, 15 months out and now weigh 148. I started out at 276 but lost 40 pounds while I was preparing to have surgery so that's a total of 128 pounds lost. My goal was 150 but I'm planning now to go to 145 just so I'll be "normal" for once in my life. I didn't want my goal to be so low that I'd have to work really, really hard to maintain it or obsess over every bite. I just want to be able to eat and exercise morderately.

I'm 5'2 and started out at 248. I was down to 125 by month 10 post-op. I was 38 at the time of my RNY.

I had surgery on 2-2-04, 43 years old. I started out at 5'2" and around 210-215 lbs. I have a disability that keeps me from exercising as much (and efficiently) as I would like. However, as of earlier this month, I've lost 100 lbs. My pcp's goal (my surgeon never really set one for me) was 126, my own goal was 120. I'm now at 108-110. I've turned out to have a much smaller frame than I thought I would...my hips and pelvis are not wide at all (although this was my real problem area before surgery). I lost over a foot off of my hips alone. I've lost nearly an inch off of my wrists, and when I measure them now I'm right on the border between having a small or medium-sized frame. Additionally, you'll be surprised at how your body looks once it emerges from its "fat" cocoon. As you said not everyone is alike. Some people discover they look good with more weight off than they originally intended, while others find they do not need to lose as much as they thought. It's hard to tell what your bone structure is going to be like soon after surgery. I keep hearing about a 10% bounce-back regain, and, truthfully if I gained back 10 lbs, I wouldn't be devestated...most of the clothes I'm wearing now would still fit... Good luck!

Hi, Check out my journal. I started at 5' and 252. I am now 20 months out and have lost 110 lbs. I'd still like to lose another 12 lbs but if I don't that's OK. Good luck with your surgery and have a happy journey. Hugs; Barbara

I am the same height, 5'3 as you and started at 249, so we are very close. I got down to 144, my lowest, a size 10, and now hover between 148 and 152, some 10's and some 12's, which is fine for me. I look at it less than a chosen weight as a chosen size. I wanted to be a 10 and thats where I ended up. I know many others who went much lower at our height, ending up in the 120's and 130's and sizes 4-6. Keep in mind that especially the first year or so it is not difficult to achieve those lower sizes, however, as time goes by, appetite and amount of food eaten naturally increases, it becomes very difficult to maintain such lo sizes. After all it is still a calories game, it takes less calories to maintain a smaller size. So be smart and make a wise decision from the get-go, what size and weight can I maintain for life.

Hello! I am 5'2 and started out at 254lbs just over two years ago. I had surgery on 11/15/2002 (25+ months) and I now weigh between 130 and 135 fully clothed minus shoes. I've recently had reconstructive work (tummy), so I'm still healing and battling swelling. I am at my lowest weight now, so the weight loss progression has been slow but consistant. At this weight range, I am wearing mostly size 6's but the occasional 8 if it's not full enough in the hip and thigh. Like some of the other posters, I never realized I could be this petite. I have a weight progression chart at the top of my profile if you wish to check it out. Good Luck!

I'm 5'4" and started at 241. I'm a little over 10 months out and now weigh 147. As much as that may seem (still above normal) I wear a size 6 jeans and an M top (still have big boobs). I run and am training for a half marathon that will happen in January. At this point I look much smaller than my weight would suggest. I'm very muscular but don't have much in the way of hips. Another case in point that we are all different.
