GOOD MORNING, I DON'T KNOW ABOUT NOVA, BUT THERE ARE HOSPITALS IN CALIFORNIA THAT ENCOURAGE YOU TO HAVE SOMEONE STAY OVER WITH YOU, IT'S CALLED POD-MATES. GOOD LUCK ON YOUR SURGERY. HAVE ABLESSED WLS JOURNEY, LORIANN http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/ChristianWLSJourney/

You may want to rethink having a family member or friend stay overnight in your hospital room. They will not get very much sleep because the staff is in and out to check on you every couple of hours, to get you up and take your vitals.

Hi Adrian, My friend Susan had her surgery at this hospital and I don't think they allowed overnighters. Its such a small hospital. I went to visit her there and the other poster was correct in saying that they are in and out of the hospital room often checking on you. You may want to contact the hospital directly and see if they allow it. Best wishes on your upcoming surgery. Lyric

I had my DS surgery at NOVA in 2002. I ended up with some post-op complications (unexplained fever) and stayed there for 11 days while they ran tests and made sure I was okay (I was -- nothing serious found!). My mom stayed with me in the room around the clock the whole time. My surgeon advised me pre-op that I shouldn't *ask* the hospital if my support person could stay in the room with me -- instead, I should TELL them that she would be there. I took this approach and they let me have a private room (2 beds) with no additional charge (they weren't very busy at the time). I don't know what I would have done without her. That hospital had some serious nursing and procedural problems at that time, and I really needed her oversight and advocacy. I strongly encourage you to do whatever you have to do to make sure that you can have someone stay with you. Good luck!
