Question:
How long have all these approvals had the ins?
I am a business owner and am buying ins for my group. I am interested in the surgery but am wondering if they will deem pre-existing since the group plan is new. Does any one have a similar situation? Has anyone signed on for the UHC ins and gone for surgery within a short period? — loretta C. (posted on October 24, 2004)

If you have been covered by a group plan for the last 18 months, pre
existing would not apply to you. See the Hipaa laws for that situation.
Also, my policy started with UHC on March 1's....My initial appointment
with my surgeon was March 2nd. No one questioned anything, they really
can't. :) best of luck to you. Rebecca

Loretta c. the previous answer you received is correct, though in my state
pre-existing was for a shorter period of time - it seems that as long as
you had medical coverage prior you're safe. However, please be careful
with UHC - they have a lot of policies of which some have a steadfast
exclusion for this type of surgery and you won't be able to change it until
the next "Open" session for UHC. Read your policy throughly
prior to buying and do not rely on UHC Service Reps to assist you - also
ask a million questions, but speak to someone who is a supervisor and if
necessary get it in writing. Best of luck to you.

Loretta,
Ann is right on the money when she is telling you to deal only with the
supervisors. Don't even waste your time talking to their reps. They havent
a clue of whats going on and it seems they can't even see whats going on
with your case. I'm thinking they don't have acess to our files. Only the
supervisors can answer your most pertenant questions. Like Ann mentioned
ask a million questions. It seems to confuse the reps but whrn they can't
tell you directly always ask for a supervisor. Trust me on this. I'm only
coming from experience of calling them almost everyday for 2 months. I had
only had United Health Care for a month 1 month before submitting my claim
and only 2 months when they approved the surgery. I had BC/BS for one year
before I had United Health Care. I wish you the best of luck. Take care Jen
:)
