Question:
Anyone have extreme tiredness after eating wrong....

Sometimes if I have eaten too fast or not chewed enough and my pouch is angry with me, I get VERY VERY sleepy. It has happened a couple of times when I have tried those NO-NO foods also. Do you think this might be a form of "dumping" or is it just my sensitive body? Lisa 11 months post-op down 130# -- 13 more to goal    — LisaL. (posted on October 15, 2004)

I haven't experienced this when eating too fast, but if I eat pasta, potatoes or ice cream, I will get very tired from dumping. These foods are very high in carbs and can cause dumping for some people.

I am preop so I do not know from expierence but several of the ladies in my support group get "sleepy" instead of getting dumping. They say that as soon as they feel sleepy they know they have to stop eating or change what they are eating. HTH!

I dont know what type of food your eating; BUT with me... if I 'get sleepy' its because Ive eaten high fat, sugar or carb food. Sleepy is a form of dumping.

First of all, congrats on your weight loss! I think it absolutely could be a form of dumping. It could be your blood sugar crashing from the high carbs/high fat content. I had that before and after weight loss surgery.

I get really tired and ravenously hungry after indulging in complex carbs. That's why I stick so closely to protein, fruits and veggies only.

When carbohydrates are digested they create sugar - so this is a form of a blood sugar change = sleepiness. This is a GOOD thing for post-ops - less opportunity to let things slide. Consider yourself lucky, as I do.
