Question:
Does surgery mess up your cycle?
I had surgery for the GB on 9/23 and was due for my period last week and have only spotted one day and nothing since. Can the surgery or strange diet mess up your cycle? — Trescilla (posted on October 6, 2004)

MOST DEFINITELY! Hormones are all out of whack from the surgery and then
they get all out of whack from the rapid weight loss. I went to
nonexistent periods to the most excruiating ones you could imagine. I had
to do BC just to help and they are still not pleasant. I had problems with
mine prior to surgery however but it wasnt until i started dropping the
weight they became more regular. Anesthesia can play a part as well as
stress on the body. I wouldnt worry about it just yet. good luck! lap rny

I was reading my gastric bypass bible from my surgeon tonight. There was at
least one paragraph on menstrual irregularities. Therefore, it must be
qutie common if they discussed it in our booklet.

Absolutely! I didn't get mine for about 3 months after WLS. Then I got it
once and got pregnant... :) Even so, after I had my son, my cycle has
never been regular again until I went on birth control. I think its a
combo of the surgery itself and the drastic weight loss.
