Question:
Just watched The View,
and I'm curious - Starr Jones looks like she lost a lot of weight. Has she had WLS? — vitoria (posted on September 6, 2004)

There has been much debate on this I think it has been said that she
mentioned it on the view awhile back but not much since I don't think she
wants it to really be know or something. Hot topic on the MB.

I heard she had WLS too, I am not sure if it is true, I know at one time
she was very against it.

Contrary to what Starr says on tv, one of my support group friends saw her
at the hospital and she supposedly had the band put in.

I think MB is message board. As far as whether Starr had WLS or not. Only
she and her Dr will ever know for sure. She's like the rest of us. Some
chose to talk about it, some don't. And like the advice some are given on
here, it's none of anyones business. If she has had it and choses not to
talk about it, that's her business. If she hasn't had it, that's her
business too. :-)

We are all allowed to share info and opinions. This was not gossip. The
info I stated was a fact. She WAS seen being prepped for surgery in NYC.
She just wasn't "OUTED" publicly like Al Roker was, but a fellow
patient saw her there. Maybe after the Al thing, the hospital was more
careful with it's employees and forgot about other patients. Who knows
what she may or may not reveal later on. I also watch The View. I also
know many people who do not share the fact that they have had surgery.
Starr may be one of them, and has the right to make up a story, but she
isn't lying, just omitting info. She IS eating better and exercising. She
is just leaving out a few other things she did. I didn't ask the question,
just providing an accurate response.

If she did and doesn't want to tell anyone, I can completely relate. I
didn't tell anyone either except family and a few close friends because I
lived in a very small town, the same one I grew up in and was terrified
that everyone would talk about me when I failed this attempt just like I
had all the others. Thank God in Heaven, I haven't gained much weight back
(15 pounds in 6 1/2 years), but could you imagine the public scrutiny Starr
would go through if she didn't do very well? I think people should just be
happy for her and leave her alone.

Thank you for responding to my original query. I don't want to be
controversial, but Starr is a tv personality, and if she wanted privacy she
should have selected another career. However, she has spoken publicly
against WLS, so it would be ironic that she has the operation and keeps it
a secret.

You're right, it would be ironic. I had no idea she had been outspoken
against WLS publicly, that puts a whole new spin on the whole situation
doesn't it! I do get aggrivated when I hear negative comments about it
when it has helped so many people.

It angers me that Starr is keeping it secret. I don't care if a regular
person does, but she is on TV. There are plenty of women out there
thinking, "what am I doing wrong?" If you have more than 100
pounds to lose, you have a 1% chance of losing it and keeping it off.
Someone like Starr has a responsibility to share the info.

I am amazed at how people think having a public job takes away a person's
right to a private life. Would you be angered if she kept a hysterectomy,
apendectomey, yeast infection, etc. private?

beautiful woman.....no matter how she did it!
