Question:
Are you working more as a post-op?
Good morning, AMOS. I've been doing a lot of thinking lately about ways to increase my income. I certainly have more energy now, so I feel I could tackle a second job, or maybe start a part-time business. A lot of ideas are running through my head. We're not bad off, but I'd like to have money for some travel, maybe a new car, you know, enough not to feel like it's just paycheck to paycheck. What are any of you doing? Has anyone decided to start a business or take on extra work? How is it going? Do you have the energy and stamina needed? If you're willing to share some ideas, I'd love to hear them. Thanks, and have a wonderful day. Lap RNY 9/11/03, 270/165/??? — Carlita (posted on August 11, 2004)

I have registered to go back to college 2 nights a week. I've lost about
180 and am still 454 pounds and 9 months out. If I can do it at this
weight, someone who's lost as you have and are at the weight you are I
would believe could handle a part time second job. You may want to increase
your exercise in the evening and on the weekends just to build more stamina
to get you through any rough weeks in the future. Good luck!

I went back to college on a part-time basis and everything is going well.
I also volunteer alot more than prior to surgery. I go to a wellness
center 4 - 5 times a week. I have so much more energy now along with
working 45-50 hrs a week I fill up my time.

Well, I have always been a very high-energy sort of person, both morbidly
obese and not. I guess you could read that on my profile :) I work a full
time + job, work part time about 25-30 hours/week, volunteer a lot, and do
a lot of support for others, and own a small business, plus help my husband
with his own business. I don't know if I necessarily felt an energy change
after WLS - I just sort of hit the ground running anyway. I have kind of a
"fake it 'til you make it" mentality" that has always worked
for me, because no one has EVER handed anything over to me while I have sat
still, waiting for it :) And I do it all on about 400-700 calories/day at
28 months post-op Lap RNY. I exercise quite a bit too, mostly biking and
walking.

So go get 'em, tiger! Just keep getting in
