Question:
Self admin. B12 shot...what to expect?
I just got a scrip for B12 shot and have never given myself a shot before...should I ask someone else to give it to me? — danab (posted on July 26, 2004)

The shots are really very easy to do. I had experience giving shots with
the diabetes that runs in my family and a good friend of mine. If you
don't have any experience, not to worry it is fairly easy. I give my shot
in my upper thigh a my dr. recommended. What I do is squeeze the area and
rub it down with alcohol and while still squeezing the area I insert the
needle halfway let go from squeezing my leg and then inject the shot. By
doing it this way I have yet to feel a thing! I tried the buttocks and not
only is it not fun to reach around to, it hurts, at least to me. Feel free
to email me if you want more details. I will tell you that the hardest
part is to get the nerve up to stick yourself. Once I finally did it, no
sweat and no pain!
Good luck to you!

Not a big deal at all! I had a nurse in my dr.'s office show me how to do
it the first time. After that - easy!

I have been giving myself B-12 shots for a little over a year now. I still
get anxious right before I do it. It really is easy and there is nothing
to worry about. Rebecca

I also get B12 shots monthly at my doc's office, a nurse does it for me.
They offered to show me how to inject myself in the leg, but I'm too
squeamish. I am going to school this September for LPN, so maybe then I'll
be able to do that to myself with a needle. Hugs, Kim S. Open RNY

I also give myself the B-12 shot. I do it twice a month. The main thing to
remember is the relax your thigh (the easiest place to give yourself the
shot). Don't tense up! If you do, it can/will hurt! But if you relax, you
will not feel it - I know, it's hard to believe, but it really does work!
Good Luck, Danette

Before trying to give the B12 shot yourself, you need to go to your Dr.
office and have someone show you the right way to give an injection. After
that the decision is totally up to you and what you feel comfortable in
doing. Good Luck.

Ouch! I gave up on shots when my Doctor told me about a B12 - 500 spray. I
use it daily and never have to deal with a needle again!
