Question:
What did you wear home from the TT?

I like my jeans tight now-a-days. I heard about the swelling that I'll have post op and don't know for sure if I'll be wearing drains home or not (I assume I will). Give me some idea of what I should wear to go home from the hospital. — jocelyn (posted on July 14, 2004)

a really loose dress that can be wshed and drains can be pinned to. If it buttons up the front, even better

I WORE A PAIR OF LOOS DRAWSTRING PANTS. MY SURGEON SAYS THAT YOU DO NOT WANT TO WEAR ANYTHING TIGHT UNTIL YOUR SWELLING AND THE TISSUE HAS HAD TIME TO HEAR. OTHERWISE YOU WILL BE LEFT WITH AN INDENTION THAT WILL TAKE A LONG TIME TO GET RID OF. I AM 4 WEEKS POST OP AND I HAVE NOT BOUGHT ANYTHING NEW TO FIT MY SIZE. I STILL WEAR A BINDER AND WHEN I HAD MY VISIT WITH SURGEON AT 4 WEEKS HE SAID IT COULD TAKE UP TO 3 TO 6 MONTHS FOR ALL THE SWELLING AND FLUID TO BE GONE. BUT HE SAYS I LOOK GREAT. GOOD LUCK TO YA!

I had wore a sundress home, which gave me plenty of room for my drainage tubes and also did not feel constrictive at all. I did not wear pants for at least a few weeks, because of swelling, bandages and drainage tubes Sarah

Luckily I held on to some of my larger underwear - like two sizes larger than what I was wearing before my PS. And I wore them home and pinned the JP drain bulbs inside. And I worn very loose Yoga pants (again, larger once that I had saved). In general, for the first couple of weeks I wore either the yoga pants if I left the house, or a nightgown that buttoned up the front - or just underwear and a sports bra with a robe on.

Here's a great hint for showering with the JP drains: They will pull on the incisions where they go into your skin (once you have them, you will know exactly what I mean). I wear a long medical ID necklace instead of a bracelet. I realized that it was easy to pin the JP drain bulbs to the necklace just when I showered so they didn't dangle from where they entered the skin. The surgeon gives them enough slack so that they will reach a long necklace (mine is 24" long). Hope that helps too!

Last thing - don't run out and buy clothes right away - my swelling lasted nearly 6 months (I had a belt lipectomy) but it was worth the wait :)

I wore a t-shirt and a pair of capri sweatpants with a loose-fitting elastic waistband. I was as comfortable as I could get considering I'd just had surgery. Good Luck! (Smiles)

I had gone to a resale shop and bought a couple of long, loose dresses. They were cute and summery but not at all constricting. I wore them during my entire recovery from surgery whenever I went out or had people over. I now use them for bathing suit coverups. Worked out great. Good luck! hugs, Ann...RNY 9/10/99.... 260/124

I just had my procedure done 4 weeks ago. I was in too much pain to even think of getting dressed let alone put anything like pants on. The hospital allowed me to wear the hospital gown home and I had my robe on.

You will be having drains after your TT. I wore light sweat pants with draw strings in a size 4 and wore those home. Even with the bandages I had very little swelling. I wore a binder for 7 days. Once drains were removed (day 7).... I was wearing a long waisted girdle for 6 weeks 24/7. By week 2 I was in a size 2. I'm 11 weeks post op from full TT with muscle repair and doing fantastic. No pain/complications... Dress for comfort. Get your protein/water/rest....You'll do great! (((HUGS)))

I wore a loose Scooby Doo PJ set (top and capri length bottom). I also had 2 drain tubes and a 2 1/2 hour drive home. I wanted to be comfortable. Good Luck.

I came home with four drains, but didn't have much swelling. I wore a pair of loose draw-string pants (the incision is very low on your abdomen, so pants with a regular waist were fine), a larger-than-usual sized button up shirt, slip-on shoes, and a fanny pack for the drains. I did the fanny pack thing until I was down to two drains that I could more reasonably hide in my clothes. You have to work a little at hiding the drain tubes, but the fanny pack was my friend for those first few weeks. I have a similar solution to the showering problem that another poster mentioned. Instead of a long necklace, I tie one leg of cut-off pantyhose into a circle and slip it around my neck and pin the drains to it. The nylon is flexible enough that I don't worry about pulling on the drains or tubes. I keep a dry one to switch to once I get out of the shower so I don't have water dripping from the wet one. Any clothes that are loose and comfy will be your friend.
