Question:
Do any of you notice a weight gain after exercising? I recently increased my workout

to twice a day three to four times a day and when I got on the scale this morning it was up SIX POUNDS. If Taebo is making me gain weight I will personally seek out Billy Blanks and let him have it!! LOL Thanks in advance for your responses.    — Michelle H. (posted on June 24, 2004)

Hi, Well since you work out so much then It is probably just muscle gain, that is what happens when you work out alot like u do, so don't worry I am sure that is what it is! I wish I could get the energy to work out that much!!!! Take Care!

Muscle weighs more than fat. Give it a while and it should balance out.

SAME HERE!!! Wow, am I glad I'm not the only one in this lousy boat. I've increased my workouts to an additional 30 minutes (starting last week-total 60 minutes/5 days a week) and what did I get repaid with feeling so great this week - an extra FIVE POUNDS!!!! UUUGGGHHH!!! I tried not to get too upset, but can't help those old feelings of being out of control. I realize that this happened last time when I switched training methods. My trainer explained that the increase in muscle building/exercise has made microscopic tears in the muscle and it requires extra fluid to "build" up all the new, good stuff. That this gain is temporary and a good sign. I just wanted to let you know that I know how you feel - totally depressed, but healthy non-the-less. We'll get through this and let's pat ourselves on the back for trying so hard, huh?!! Good luck and best wishes!

Michelle...I don't know if this will help or not, but when I started my exercise I joined a gym for women called Contours. I told the trainer I was able to use more weight on each machine, but she told me I shouldn't use anymore weight because it would cause me to build more muscle and once the muscle is there, covering the fat, it's harder to lose the fat. So, I've been exercising at least 4 times each week and sometimes 6 times, but I only use the minimum weight on each machine. But I do each machine twice and the ab cruncher I do 4 times. The ab cruncher is the only machine I increased weight on and I do 110 pounds on it. And I also ride a stationary bike at the beginning of my exercise and at the end of the exercise just before my stretches. I can ride 1.1 miles in 4 minutes giving me a total of 2.2 miles total on the bike. From 3/30 to 6/1 I'd lost 24 pounds and 18 inches since they started measuring me. They forgot to weigh me in the beginning, so I'm sure I've lost even more, but I didn't measure before surgery. I weighed 333.5 on 1/5/04 when I had my surgery and currently weight 249. Hope this helps.

I just wanted to say that the comment someone's trainer made about fat being harder to lose when covered with muscle is the most bizarre thing I've ever heard. I'm a personal trainer myself and find that muscle allows you to burn fat even in a resting state because it requires approx 10x the number of calories to maintain a pound of fat than a pound of fat. So, bump up that machine and pack some muscles on there! Yes, you may end up weighing more than you would otherwise but I am 5'7", weigh 150lbs and wear a size 6. Most people guess my weight at 120 - 130, so unless they are peering over my shoulder every morning when I weigh, my weight is a secret! :) P.S. A "normie" female eating 16x their desired body weight in calories will only put on 1lb a week in muscle, so the 5 and 6 lbs you are seeing is primarily water as a previous well-informed poster said. So nice to see people who do their research! :) Keep up that exercise.
